Shanda Weeden LPC

Personal Statement

Shanda Weeden is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 22 years of experience in working

with individuals impacted by stress, trauma, and life transitions. She specializes in supporting

individuals, couples and families struggling with depression, anxiety, anger/rage, substance

abuse, trauma, ADHD, relationship difficulties including infidelity and divorce, and other life

stressors and transitions such as family or work-related stress. Shanda’s delight is understanding

people in the frame of where they are in their life and what the world looks like through their

lens. She focuses on fostering a safe place to discuss the impact of individual experiences that

can lead to developing a different, more adaptive vision of oneself, the future, and the world.

Shanda mainly works from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach, which is a

collaborative way to address feelings, thoughts and actions that are distorted or maladaptive. She relies on other approaches too including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance

and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to welcome her clients on a therapeutic journey as a teammate.

With her warm and compassionate approach, Shanda engages non-judgmentally to work towards personal goals for growth and healing.

Shanda received a Master of Science degree in Counseling and Education from Duquesne

University. She has worked in outpatient and inpatient settings including private practice,

inpatient hospital, community mental health setting, and a state correctional institution with

individuals of various levels of care and acuity. Shanda has gained invaluable experience by

working with individuals who were both the victims and perpetrators of violent crimes. She has

specialized training in working with sex offenders, batterers, suicidal individuals, and those

impacted by violence and complex trauma.
