James William Wing, MS, Pre-Doctoral Candidate

Personal Statement

My name is James Wing, but everyone calls me Jim. I hold a Master's Degree in Psychology and currently I am in the fourth year of a Counseling Psychology Doctoral program.

Before I entered the field of Psychology I was, and still am, a martial arts instructor. It is ironic how being a martial arts instructor and therapist are so similar. As a martial arts instructor I help people become self-confident, self-assured, and most importantly lead fulfilling lives. My goals with my psychotherapy patients are to help them feel better about themselves, live balanced lives, and see life as a meaningful experience.

In my free time I like to collect cowboy boots.  When you see me in the office - look at my feet, you will see me wearing a pair!

My primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I like CBT because people tend to behave based on feelings and emotions. CBT helps people develop healthier ways of thinking, which in turn can improve mood and how they interact with others.

As a therapist you will find me relatable and down to earth. We will work collaboratively to explore your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and behaviors. I will guide you on a journey of self-discovery, which hopefully leaves you feeling better about yourself.

I leave you with this quote from Viktor Frankl:   “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
